Information Regarding Referrals.
Referrals are an important part of our practice, particularly as the majority of our patient’s are eligible to receive a Medicare rebate. At this practice we make every effort to remind you if you need a new referral but ultimately it is YOUR responsibility to ensure your referral is current and valid. Please note:
- You need a valid referral to see Dr Ian Everitt if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate.
- No Referral = No rebate.
- You can still make an appointment to see Dr Everitt without a referral, but you will not be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate.
- Referrals cannot be back dated – it is against the law for your GP to backdate a referral. This means GPs cannot write you a referral the day after your appointment.
- GP referrals are valid for 12 months from the date of your first consult.
- Referrals from a specialist are valid for 3 months from the date of your first consult.
HOW TO PROCESS YOUR REBATE
After Your Appointment
At this clinic if you provide your Medicare Card details, we can submit the Medicare Claim on your behalf OR you may request a receipt to submit to Medicare Online to process the rebate yourself.
Accounts Received by Mail
If you have received an account in the mail for services performed by Dr Ian Everitt at Glengarry Private Hospital or from his private clinic, a receipt will be posted (once paid) and then you are entitled to submit your receipt to Medicare for a rebate. You can do this online using your myGov account. See Medicare links below for help if required.
Please note: Healthy newborn babies are considered “borders” at private hospitals (They are NOT “in-patients”) and unless they have been admitted to the Special Care Nursery, the account cannot be submitted to your Health Fund. If you are unsure, please call Lisa to discuss 9203 5414.
